Alcohol abstinence day

So, I went on vacation to one of European countries. I wanted to get a beer in the city center because the weather is beautiful and i just want to get one, taste the local product and so on. I entered one of the pubs, approached the bartender, asked for a beer and the guys says: "sorry, it's an alcohol abstinence day, we don't sell any"... perfect, just perfect!
